How We Got Here

Founded by Pet Pros Who Were Tired of Crossing Their Fingers

Hooman for Hire started the way a lot of things do — out of a problem we couldn't stop thinking about.

Two friends, both with backgrounds working in veterinary clinics, kept having the same conversations. About the pet sitter who barely stayed. The dog walker who wasn't really present. The pet owner who came home to something that just felt off, and couldn't quite explain it to anyone who hadn't felt it themselves.

We'd been those pet owners too.

I had a binder for my dog. Full care notes, medical history, a meal prep routine that took real time. I knew how that looked to some people, and I'd made peace with it, because I also knew her. I knew what she needed to feel okay when I wasn't there, and it wasn't just a distraction toy and a quick check-in. It was someone who actually paid attention.

That person was hard to find.

Working in veterinary medicine changes how you see animals. You learn to notice things most people wouldn't catch. You understand that the bond someone has with their pet isn't a quirk or an overreaction — it's real, and it matters, and it deserves to be met with the same care it's given.

We wanted that for our own animals. We wanted it for our community. So we built it.
